Fishing
Fly
fishing in the streams, rivers, and lakes of the Bay of Plenty,
Poverty Bay, and Central North Island areas of New Zealand is
very rewarding. The browns and the rainbows in some areas
have been isolated from being pursued and grow large and healthy
on the rich abundance of food in the native bush areas.
It may take several hours to walk in to some of the excellent
fishing spots (or a few minutes by helicopter), but the experience
is worth it.
Talk to me nicely and I may just share the experience and the
secret spots.
Hunting
In
early November (2002) two mates and I flew into the Urewera National
Park by helicopter on one of our hunting trips. We have hunted
the same area for three springs in a row now and we're getting
to know the place very well. The place we go to is without doubt
definitely a prime place to hunt in the spring. The first time
we went we got 4 red deer between 5 of us. Last year when we went
in it was a little later in the spring and we only got 1 deer
between 5 of us. So this time we decided to go in the same time
as the first trip and scored 4 deer between only 3 of us.
The venison supplies for the BBQ are well and truly stocked up.
Now we will have to focus on getting into a spot of fishing shortly
before all the Christmas tourists and holiday makers hammer the
easy spots. |

Bruce fly fishes mainly in freshwater, and
hunts for deer, pigs, and goats.
